Stage 1 of the High Performance Computer for research successfully installed by MEGWARE
The Supercomputer at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) was successfully passed to the user in early July 2014.
The equipped system with powerful Intel Xeon processors is characterized not only by its energy efficiency, but also by its excellent price / performance ratio and can also convince the users with rank 243 of the current Top500 list of the world's fastest HPC systems.
In the future the new supercomputer will process highly complex application problems for strategically important research areas of the Karslruher Institute of Technology, such as environment, energy, nanostructures/technologies and materials science with new orders of magnitude.
The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology is a public corporation according to the laws of the State of Baden-Württemberg. It fulfills both the mission of a university and the mission of a national research center of the Helmholtz Association. The main topics of research are energy, natural and built environment, society and technology, from fundamental questions to application. KIT is one of the largest research and teaching institutions in Europe - With approximately 9400 employees, including more than 6000 in scholarship and teaching, as well as 24500 students. The Institute pursues its tasks on a triangle of knowledge: research - teaching - innovation.
