High Capability System - SiCortex SC5832

With 5,832 processors and an available main working memory of 3.88 TB, this system has an energy consumption of only 23.5 kW and thus offers a balanced ratio between computing capacity, storage and network bandwidth. Despite the large number of processors, this supercomputer is able to save the considerable amount up to 345,000 EUR (in words : three hundred forty-five thousand) as compared to a 60 kW cluster solution, over a period of 3 years.

Equipment :

  • Number of processor cores : 5,832
  • Interconnect: Kautz Graph Topology
  • Storage system : 24 Terabyte
  • Energy consumption : 23.5 kW

Main Applications :
  • Computing operations in nuclear physics and fluid mechanics

"Among other things, the new computer is able to perform the exact computation of spin quantum models with up to 48 particles, an operation which requires a memory of 2.4 TB for the provision of the status vectors alone, which can be distributed to 972 compute nodes," says Dr Jörg Schulenburg (Magdeburg University Computing Centre).
