MEGWARE supplies extension for the hot water cooled CooLMUC3
The Leibniz Supercomputing Centre in Garching is looking forward to an extension of the CooLMUC3 cluster. Since February of this year, the energy-efficient high-performance computer consists of nine server racks and supports the Ludwig-Maximilians-University and the TU München with additional computing power. The new racks include in total further 151 compute nodes, which are equipped with Intel® Xeon® Skylake 6130 processors. Like the first installation of CooLMUC3 in November 2017, the new compute nodes and all integrated memory-modules, network interfaces and power supply units as well as all Intel® Omni-Path Switches are 100% directly cooled with hot water using the liquid cooling technology ColdCon® developed by MEGWARE.
„The starting signal for complete hot water cooling was already given in 2017 with the delivery of the first components of the CooLMUC3. For the current extension this year we have further optimized our technology and processes and we are optimally prepared for future projects.“ says Axel Auweter, CTO of MEGWARE.
Analogous to the first installation, this CooLMUC3 extension can achieve highest energy efficiency values due to the completely fanless system operation. In addition, up to 97% of the heat can be released into the water cycle.
